The importance of a pain management plan

Our team constructs a customized plan to reduce your pain and restore your mobility. This plan helps identify triggers and uncover the most helpful solutions, including:

Whether your pain resolves quickly or lingers far longer than you’d like, a plan can help you advance your healing and get back to your usual self sooner than later.

The benefits of physical therapy

We may refer you to a physical therapist to help you manage post-operative and/or ongoing pain. These specialists use movement and hands-on manipulation to ease muscle tension, improve joint mobility, boost circulation, and ultimately, alleviate your pain.

Your personalized physical therapy may include:

Your physical therapist may also use transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to ease your pain through gentle and highly targeted electrical currents.

Building your pain management plan

Just as an architect creates a blueprint, our team constructs a personalized pain management and recovery plan that incorporates your treatments, medications, and physical therapy.

We begin with a questionnaire and thorough assessment that includes your medical history, a physical exam, and detailed symptom evaluation. We may also use X-rays, MRIs, or blood tests to help pinpoint the precise underlying cause of your pain condition.

Depending upon your needs, your pain management plan may include:

Epidural steroid injections

An epidural steroid injection delivers an anti-inflammatory steroid along with an anesthetic into the region surrounding your spinal cord to reduce back discomfort.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS)

SCS prevents pain signals from reaching your brain, so you no longer feel them. This approach uses a generator, implanted beneath your skin, that’s attached to electrodes threaded between your spinal cord and vertebrae. You use a handheld remote to send electrical impulses to those electrodes and dampen your pain.

Trigger point injections

Trigger point injections target knots in the myofascial tissue sheath covering your muscles to release ongoing muscle-related tension and pain.

Nerve block injections

During a nerve block, we inject anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medications with the help of a fluoroscope (live X-ray) or ultrasound imaging to lessen your pain.

Continuing follow-up care

Your plan also includes follow-up visits to evaluate your ongoing treatment, so our team can revise your plan as needed. We use your input every step of the way to keep you on the best path possible — until your pain is well-managed or resolved.

A comprehensive plan to relieve your pain

Our knowledgeable specialists set realistic goals in your comprehensive pain management plan to improve your quality of life via non-surgical solutions and physical therapy.
